Fast and Easy Croque Monsieur Sliders (with variation ideas to make any kind of slider using this as a baked slider base)

efficientlymomming

One of my favorite meals has to be sliders. They are fun to eat and easy to make. My go-to slider recipe is a variation on the French sandwich, a croque monsieur. Don't worry, I won't put a whole story where you have to read about how I first tried this sandwich on a beautiful springtime day or anything; I'm jumping right into the recipe.

Ingredients:

-            A pack of Hawaiian slider buns

-            Some apricot jam

-            Slices of ham, as many as correspond to the buns

-            Shredded gruyere cheese

-            Melted butter, maybe around a half tablespoon or so

-            Green Harvest seasoning (https://amzn.to/3TZmW3g is the link to get this on Amazon – you’re going to want to add this to your cart so you have it for your kitchen, and then just put it on your grocery list whenever it runs out as this seasoning blend is an absolute favorite in my household. Instructions:

Preheat your oven to 350F/180C.

If the slider buns are already cut in half, put the bottom half in a pan that corresponds to the shape. I like to do the pack of nine and put it in my square glass Pyrex. If they’re not already cut in half, cut them in half and put the bottom halves down.

Spread the apricot jam.

Fold the slices of ham into quarters so they fit on the buns and place them on top of the apricot jam you already put on the buns.

Sprinkle the shredded gruyere on top. It doesn’t matter how much – cheese is something you measure with your heart.

Put the top halves of the buns on and spread the melted butter over them. Sprinkle with the seasoning. Pop into the oven for 20 minutes, or until cheese is melty and the

tops of the buns are golden.

We love to have this meal with soup, salad, or both.

The fun thing is too once you get in the hang of this with the temperature of the oven and the time (which isn't hard at all), you can do really any variation you’d like. I’ve done strawberry rhubarb jam with ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese for a Monte Cristo (also use an egg on top and instead of the Green Harvest seasoning, use powdered sugar). I’ve also done cran-apple jam with turkey, brie cheese, and shaved Brussels sprouts with some fresh cracked pepper on top. Basically any kind of slider recipe you want, just use this base for it. We always have really fun jams on hand as my husband met a lady who makes her own jam at a farmers market and now we are always running to her house to buy jam from her.

If you’re also looking for fun things to do with the seasoning blend, I can give you so many ideas. We put it on top of scrambled eggs on weekend mornings, mixed in with veggies for side dishes – broccoli, zucchini, green beans, asparagus (just did this one last night!) and  more. I’ve used it on chicken. My husband had used it with the crockpot chicken and dumplings recipe he made during his paternity leave when I was back at the office. This seasoning blend is absolutely amazing and I recommend it to everyone.
